Wonderful
The setting was amazing. The surrounding mountains are absolutely stunning and the trails all start right from there. The food was all pretty good, especially after a big day out. Staff were all lovely.
The menu could use some more vegetarian options but otherwise can't complain too much. Great value for what we got

What was the highlight of Der Bodenbauer
A homely gasthaus in which we felt like honoured house guests!
We had a wonderful stay here. We were really made to feel at home by Sabine and the other staff. Even though they were quite stretched with it being peak season, they did everything possible to enhance our stay, allowing us to upgrade rooms, providing us with an early breakfast and packed lunch for our Hochschwab hike, and even calling the Schietlhaus mountain hut to check on our progress when we were back late. For those undertaking the Hochschwab ascent it is worth saying it is rather more challenging for those unfamiliar with alpine hiking than online descriptions might suggest! We were slow, but the whole circuit took us almost 12 hours, and the section of via ferrata was not for the faint-hearted, even if no specialist equipment was required. We were grateful to Sabine and some other kindly guests for making sure we were well prepared! The food in the restaurant was also very good - wholesome Austrian fare.
The fact they were short staffed meant we sometimes had to wait to be served, but as we weren’t rushed, this wasn’t at all to the detriment of our stay.
